Like most large cities, Swansea has areas with more than their fair share of social problems. The lack of facilities within these areas often means there are few things for children and young people to do outside of school hours and away from the telly. Swansea Community Farm is a resource for the local community and provides a small oasis of countryside in an otherwise urban landscape.
The Project, which is currently funded by the Big Lottery, People and Places Fund and ‘Children in Need’, strives to recognise and develop skills in children and young people that will be useful in later life. Young volunteers are encouraged to work independently, as well as part of a team, whilst thinking about the needs of others and giving something back to their local community.
The Child and Youth Project offer a wide range of activities, catering for the needs of children and young people of all abilities and include a chance to: - work with animals and learn how to care for them, create a masterpiece during our arts and crafts sessions, or grow vegetables in our Gardening club.
Does this sound like something you would like to join in with? Well why not have a look at the different activities going on this month or call in at the Farm and talk to a member of staff.
Don’t forget – you will need to get a registration form filled out by a parent or guardian, before you can start joining in with the activities. Have a look at how to get involved to make sure you are ready to get volunteering!
The Farm's Child and Youth Project is funded through the Big Lottery Grant - People and Places Programme with support from BBC Children in Need. The Farm's free play Playschemes are supported by a Play Team Play Grant through the City and County of Swansea. We would like to say a big thank you to our funders - without your support we would not be here!
