We are more aware now than perhaps ever before of the impact we are having, as human beings, on the environment around us. Species extinction, habitat destruction, environmental pollution, ozone depletion and global warming are issues and phrases we are sadly all too familiar with.

As a small independent charity it would have been easy to use lack of resources as an excuse for burying our heads in the sand and ignoring our impact on the world around us. But we don’t keep ostriches, we keep chickens and ducks, and we’ve been pecking away at the big environmental issues which affect us all.

In recognition of our work in championing these issues, the Farm was winner of the 2005 Sustainable Swansea ‘Community’ Award, the most hotly contested award in this prestigious local awards scheme.

The buildings and grounds on the Farm are by no means models of sustainable development, but they do demonstrate what can be done within the constraints of the money and time available to us. We are trying to do our bit for the planet!
