Our Animals
As a working farm we seek to educate visitors and volunteers on where their food comes from, including meat and eggs. As such our breeding and stocking policy is to provide food for the plate as well as increased awareness of the issues surrounding production.
We also seek to promote rare breed farm animals, and where possible, Welsh rare-breeds. This is in an effort to celebrate and preserve both genetic diversity and Welsh cultural heritage.
We keep both English Goats and Golden Guernseys here at the farm. As well as being great characters they help us with our conservation work by eating invasive plants.
The pigs we keep and breed here are Large Blacks. They are a rare breed originally from South West England. They are hardy, fuss free and make excellent mothers to large litters.
Our sheep are Llanwennog, a rare Welsh breed from West Wales. Sheep are hardy and graze outdoors and can provide meat and wool.
Deeyo and Trefor are our donkeys. They are lovely boys. They help to manage the local heathland by grazing it and provide therapeutic donkey cuddles. Their soft velvety noses are just awesome!
We keep Welsh Harlequin Ducks. Wales' only native duck breed and a rare breed. They provide tasty eggs and share their pen with our Brecon Buff geese.
We have 4 hives of honey bees at the Farm but hope to expand over the summer. Bees help to pollinate our crops and give us tasty honey.
